What’s a fella supposed to do? He works at his writing, night and day, alone in his apartment. He want’s to be a writer. He distributes his work to his friends, puts up all his links in more than one place, begs all over the social websites to be read, until Twitter cuts him off altogether. He’d like people to read his work, but people make sport of his self-promotion. Well, OK. So I’m a freelancer. Who else is going to do my promoting, if I don’t do it? I mean, check out my prices. Everything I write is on sale for $0.99 a piece on Kindle Direct Publishing at Amazon. I’m practically giving my work away. Almost, but not quite.
Besides, I’m almost writing about leprosy or AIDS. Not quite, but almost. I’m like one man trying to change the whole world with one laptop. Something like Dr Martin Luther King, Jr, or Jack Kennedy back in the sixties. Someone might shoot me, too. I believe one voice makes a difference in this world. I believe I was the one voice of one adult abused child, back in the seventies and the eighties, on the crisis line, finally making myself – and the children – heard by the masses. I called the hotline for a long time, and talked about my PTSD, on a daily basis.
I’m a survivor of childhood abuses of all kinds. I am a sober survivor of alcoholism and drug addiction, when eighty-five percent of my peers in America were at least dabbling in drugs. I am a man who spent his youth in state hospitals, here and there, who wants the world to look beyond the illness and see the man. I was diagnosed with a chemical imbalance in my brain when I was twenty years old. It’s time to stop making fun of people who have difficulties with their minds. I can’t help it. I inherited schizophrenia, like I inherited a good, strong head of hair from my father.
There. Does it sound like I’ve become a writer? Well, have a look for yourself.
